Labour holds on to Brent and Harrow London Assembly seat and Sadiq Khan becomes Mayor of London
Labour holds on to Brent and Harrow London Assembly seat and Sadiq Khan becomes Mayor of London.
On 5 May, 2016, scores of Harrow Labour members, activists and supporters teamed up to get the vote out for Sadiq Khan and Navin Shah.
Navin polled a significant victory – 79,902 votes (45 per cent). His closest rival, Conservative Cllr Joel Davidson, polled 59,147 votes (33 per cent) – 20,755 fewer votes than Shah. In Sadiq Khan, Labour now has a London mayor with the largest personal mandate of any politician in UK history, winning 57% of the votes once first and second preferences were counted.
The announcement of Navin's victory was made to observers from both Harrow, Brent and across North London. Shah took the opportunity to thank all of the activists that delivered leaflets, knocked on doors and kept spirits high come rain and shine.
Now that the celebrations are over, and both Khan and Shah are signed into their positions in City Hall, we look back at some of the great campaign photos of 2016. The hard work paid off!
