You must keep your promise to Harrow at the spending review

“You must keep your promise to Harrow at the spending review” – Harrow Council Leader delivers warning to Rishi Sunak.

Ahead of Wednesday’s Spending Review, Labour’s Council Leader Graham Henson has today warned the Chancellor to keep this Government’s promise to support Harrow through the Coronavirus crisis. COVID has already cost Harrow £36.4m, and councils across the country are currently facing a £6.7bnn shortfall in spite of government promises support local authorities. The Government are in hot water regarding bad deals and cronyism. They have spent over £150m on unusable masks but are not supporting local government. Councils are taking on huge responsibilities and delivering services often without the support they need form Government.

“People in Harrow have done everything the Government has asked to fight the Coronavirus. It’s been really tough, but we have made sacrifices to support the national effort.

“Here in Harrow, COVID has cost our council £36.4m as we invest more in things like PPE and supporting the most vulnerable in our community. The Government promised to do whatever it takes to cover that cost so front line services aren’t hit – now it’s time to keep that promise.

“At Wednesday’s Spending Review the Chancellor must do the right thing and ensure Harrow has the support we need to protect local people, protect public services and start to build the recovery we all desperately want to see.”
