18,000 Harrow Children Are Living In Poverty, Harrow Conservatives Voted To Cut Their Support
~Every single Conservative councillor at last Thursday’s meeting of Harrow Council voted against Harrow Labour’s motion to ask the government to reconsider imposing the Universal Credit cut on individuals and families in Harrow.
Harrow has seen a growing number of children living in poverty, In Harrow there are over 18,000 children living in poverty and we see the profound and devastating consequences of food insecurity on the health, wellbeing and livelihoods of citizens in our communities.
Labour Councillor Pamela Fitzpatrick brought this Motion to the Council. In response to the Conservatives actions she has said:
“The fact is the Conservative government doesn’t care about those people and neither does the local Conservative group. But not only did they vote against the motion, not one of them had the guts to stand up and tell the people they represent why they think it’s acceptable to take £80 a month from the people in Harrow who can least afford it. It’s shocking and disappointing.”
